Amgen
Helix Campus Expansion Plan
Seattle, WA
1,200,000 SF on 40 acres
Overlooking Downtown Seattle and Elliott Bay, Amgen’s Helix Campus houses the company’s drug discovery process in a unique and spectacular setting. This expansion plan seeks to balance several dynamic and contemporary new buildings with the more traditional existing structures and the site’s extensive open spaces and waterfront. Four of the new buildings house laboratories and research spaces in a double-loaded “racetrack” configuration alongside administrative areas concentrated in a four-story loft environment. These 135,000 SF structures are sited to maximize exposure to the surrounding mountain scenery—including a particularly clear view of Mt. Rainier. At the end of 16th Avenue West, a new Administrative / Amenity structure will serve as both the new visitor “front door” and the primary employee commons. This building will also anchor a new landscaped quadrangle that serves as a central focus of the expanded campus.
