Recognizing the need for a dynamic arts venue for local Boston theater groups and its patrons, the non-profit organization Constellation Productions commissioned the Constellation Center be built in Kendall Square to accommodate every type of indoor, aural / visual performance experience. The Center will house four performance halls each designed for different venues. The largest hall for classical and early music will seat 750 people with a flexible floor plan and a Bach Organ. The second performance hall for experimental performance and music will seat 450 people. A ‘Jewel Box’ theatre is also planned for small groups of 200, which will hold a Renaissance organ. A theatre for lectures and seminars is also planned. Extensive acoustic research has been conducted in historic halls in Vienna, Salzburg, Rome, and Amsterdam.
