The Landmark Tower
Yokohama, Japan
1,750,000 SF
Synthesizing Asian sensibility with contemporary technology, the elegantly tapered Landmark Tower defines the entry to the harbor of Yokohama, Japan. The 73-story, 1,000-foot-high skyscraper is the tallest building in Japan. Accommodating the need for a large vertical core, especially in the lower portions, the steel and concrete structure starts with a wide star-shaped base and slopes upward, becoming progressively slender. The granite-clad tower includes 52 floors of office space and a 600-room Nikko Hotel on 15 floors at the top of the tower. A skylit swimming pool and health club facility is located at the base of the hotel. Other amenities such as lobby, banquet, and reception rooms occupy lower floors. Extending northeast, the spine is lined by four levels of shops and restaurants and culminates in a dramatically enclosed atrium space.
