The next generation of mail processing called for the design of this prototypical state-of-the-art project for Philadelphia. The image of an efficient, quality workplace is expressed in an overall massing that articulates the different programmatic components and integrates them in a way that reflects their interaction. The area that best embodies the spirit of this facility is the central circulation spine, which manages to create a humane, dignified space for the workforce. It serves as a link between the workrooms and the administrative wing, concentrating and organizing major employee circulation activity. During the day, this space is filled with natural light; at night, it becomes a beacon that signals the arrival to the facility and welcomes employees. The building’s crisp, streamlined metal skin acknowledges the character of the building and establishes a bold presence along its thoroughfare
