The primary goal of the project was to provide a technologically advanced headquarters for this high-technology trading software and online brokerage company. The design strives to act as an embodiment of the company‘s philosophy of transparency and egalitarianism. By situating all of the workstations and offices in a “systems zone” held back from the perimeter circulation corridor, natural light penetrates deep into the workspace, affording views of the Hudson River, Lower Manhattan, Ellis Island, and the Statue of Liberty. The systems zone is composed of demountable partitions, modular ceiling and lighting, and a raised floor system that gives the company a high degree of flexibility and efficiency to reconfigure the space as requirements change. An undulating vertical plane, or “morph” wall, surrounds the building service core and has dedicated spaces for a coffee bar, pantry, copy rooms, and various types of meeting areas on each of the office floors.
