Elsevier, a division of Reed Publications, specializes in scientific, technical and medical books, journals and multi-media products and services. A world leader in its field, Elsevier has 7,000 employees in 73 locations around the globe. The design of Elsevierís new space responds to the requirements of a younger, technology savvy employee base. The design challenge was to create an environment that would help recruit and maintain this evolving workforce. Using benchmarking tools and demographic studies, a program for the office was developed that reflected the new workplace requirements. The planning concept called for teaming ‘neighborhoods’, collaborative spaces, state of the art video conferencing, casual and formal meeting spaces, an interactive reception lobby with product display, and a hip cyber cafČ. Open perimeter planning, glass office fronts, and modular workstation sizes create a light filled, communicative, and flexible space for now and for the future.
