Data Center and Office Expansion
Research Triangle Park, NC
16,000 SF
This addition to an existing data center provides the main computer data center for Becton Dickinson worldwide research operations. The building combines the 7x24 operating capacity of the data center on the first floor with flexible IT support space on the second. The data center was designed to ANSI/TIA 942 Tier III performance criteria providing 75 w/SF average computer equipment capacity using a redundant “A” “B” UPS topology, supported by N+1 on-site standby power generation. The location of the data center and its support equipment was in a very visually and environmentally sensitive area of the RTP site. A collaborative and integrated design approach resulted in cost effective design solutions. The corrugated metal panels of the building envelope and the red accent panels echo the color palette of the original building, and provide functional screening of security and mechanical equipment areas
