Qwest, in conjunction with IBM, developed multiple Internet hosting facilities called CyberCenters across the US. The team’s design for the facilities maximizes raised access floor “retail” space, which is proving to be the new state-of-the-art design in reliable, maintainable 7x24x365 (seven days a week, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year) operation. Usable watt-density of 100 watts per-square-foot is available throughout the retail space. To accelerate the building process, a prototype facility has been developed that is then site-adapted at locations throughout the country. Specific services included analysis of architectural field audits of existing single-story, masonry, light industrial buildings of 200,000 SF to 600,000 SF. This analysis was conducted on sites ranging from 12 acres to 22 acres.
