The LEEDTM Certified addition is a three-story wing addition to a Pharmaceutical Development and Drug Discovery facility containing laboratories for research in CNS/gene discovery, bioinformatics, virology, NMR, chemistry, peptide, DNA core, cell therapy, and immunology. Broad, overlapping planes of glass give the addition a serene response to the busy rhythmic sequence of stone and glass planes in the existing building, while the new entry point to the complex uses a palette of orange sandstone, green slate, and curtainwall with horizontal mullion caps to echo its predecessor. An aluminum trellis covers the entry, setting up a spatial sequence through the lobby and into the courtyard. Local species are slated for the landscaping, complementing the site’s canyon-edge ecosystem.
